... What most impresses me about Carlos Castanheira’s projects is a certain “authenticity” that I believe is tied into this experience of working with different materials. Authenticity which is present in particular in those timber houses: in the complexity of the spaces, in horizontal and vertical expansion in every direction, under the control of delicate timber structures.
These projects, built on substantially large wooded sites with complex topography, have their insertion into the landscape as the foundation stone, with their exact choice of placement on the site and use of materials -from the granite, to the slate, to timber in its natural colour.
